The company was founded on a thesis to develop carbon-neutral buildings.

At The Neutral Project, we relentlessly aim to build carbon-neutral developments. This is done by following a novel approach to sustainability called The Neutral Standard. This Standard has a dual mandate to eliminate embodied carbon and reduce operational carbon emissions generated by our buildings.

Our strategy is to eliminate embodied carbon emissions in the built environment. 

The Neutral Standard’s method to eliminate embodied carbon is grounded in using mass timber as our primary structural material and selecting other low-carbon-intensive materials. There is an opportunity to sequester carbon within mass timber through the process of photosynthesis when it is sourced from forests that practice proper forest management. Our relentless pursuit of carbon neutrality demonstrates our unwavering commitment to building a sustainable future, significantly mitigating the embodied carbon impact of our developments.

Our methodology is to minimize operational carbon emissions during the operational use of the building.

The Neutral Standard prioritizes the reduction of operational carbon emissions by employing a range of strategies. These strategies include; employing passive house design strategies, utilizing energy-efficient appliances, designing a more efficient envelope, and implementing smart home technology to monitor and optimize energy usage. By significantly reducing a building's energy consumption, we effectively mitigate the carbon emissions associated with its operation, advancing our commitment to sustainability.
